First Independent Bank Donations Support Eddy House and CARE Chest Nonprofit Organizations
RENO - First Independent Bank is proud to provide financial support to two northern Nevada nonprofit organizations, Eddy House and CARE Chest, which provide essential services to our community's vulnerable, at-risk and low-income populations.
First Independent Bank donated $10,000 to Eddy House to support its emergency shelter. Eddy House provides the services and support that allow youth to get off the streets and have the opportunity to improve their lives. Specifically, the donation will fund the cost of meals, laundry, showers, and utilities in the emergency shelter. By meeting clients' immediate needs to get off the street, Eddy House staff can work with youth on long-term goals that provide a path to sustainable independence.
"We are so grateful for our partnership with First Independent Bank. Their dedication to com-munity organizations like Eddy House is outstanding," said Trevor Macaluso, Eddy House executive director. "Eddy House is able to serve homeless youth throughout the Northern Nevada community thanks to the support we receive from local businesses like First Independent Bank."
Many of those assisted by Eddy House have aged out of the foster care system, have experienced tragic incidents, or been unhoused for many years.
"Our community is truly blessed to have so many organizations that actively work to improve the lives of those who need a hand-up," said Jim DeVolld, managing director of commercial banking at First Independent Bank. "We are grateful for what these agencies provide to those in need and the ability to support their programs."
First Independent Bank also made a $10,000 donation to CARE Chest, which provides medical resources free of charge to those Nevadans living at or below 138 percent of the federal poverty level - roughly $25,268 for a two-person household. The First Independent Bank funding will directly support the Medical Resources Program, which purchases items such as incontinence protection, medical nutrition and diabetic testing supplies for distribution to clients. Without CARE Chest, many people would go without these medical resources because their insurance won't cover the cost or they cannot afford to buy it out of pocket.
"First Independent Bank's generosity and ongoing support of CARE Chest's mission allows us to continue serving those in our community who need it most," said Anne McNulty, CARE Chest executive director. "Thanks to the donation from First Independent Bank and other like-minded community organizations, we were able to service more than 18,000 individuals in 2022."
Additional donations were made on behalf of First Independent Bank to Catholic Charities of Northern Nevada and The Empowerment Center and were announced previously.
