Jeff Whalen is a senior vice president with Western Alliance Bank’s Private Client Group, which meets the complex needs of high-net-worth clients and their trusted advisors with tailored, concierge banking and mortgage solutions. Mr. Whalen joined Western Alliance Bank in 2006 and has more than 40 years of experience serving clients across the Bay Area.

Based in the bank’s San Jose office, Mr. Whalen provides loan and deposit solutions for high-net-worth clients pursuing business and real estate investments. His expertise includes financing for mergers and acquisitions, business acquisitions, and commercial and residential real estate. He is known for his diligence, responsiveness and ability to deliver timely solutions.

Mr. Whalen brings deep knowledge of the Bay Area marketplace, shaped by his professional experience and four generations of family ties. He has extensive expertise with trust balance management and security for Taft-Hartley Trusts and working with union pension plan administrators, 1031 exchange facilitators and title companies, as well as managing trust deposits for major law firms. His prior banking career includes senior leadership roles at Union Bank, Plaza Bank, Silicon Valley Bank, Mid Peninsula Bank and Western Alliance Bank’s legacy Bridge Bank brand.

Earlier in his career, Mr. Whalen worked in commercial real estate and mortgage banking, and he remains a licensed California real estate broker. Soon after graduating from college, he co-founded a successful chain of independent film theaters in the Bay Area, which he and his partners sold five years later.

Mr. Whalen earned a Bachelor of Arts from San Jose State University. He is a member of the San Jose Rotary and the Bay Club Courtside in Los Gatos and previously served on the boards of the San Jose Symphony and the San Jose Film Festival. For more than 20 years, he has been a board member of the Mandan Village HOA in Sundance, Utah. He volunteers annually with Second Harvest Food Bank. Outside of the office, he is an avid skier, mountain biker and fly fisherman and enjoys hiking throughout the Sierra and Rocky Mountains.
